Italian courts advance proceedings in Maria Chindamo murder trial
The Catanzaro Assize Court has concluded the evidentiary phase of the Maestrale trial regarding the murder of entrepreneur Maria Chindamo. Chindamo disappeared in Nicotera on May 6, and her case is being treated as a lupara bianca. The court rejected requests from both the prosecution and the defense for further evidence, including the testimony of mafia collaborator Pasquale Alessandro Megna. Megna, the son of a prominent member of the Mancuso clan, had previously identified Salvatore Ascone as being involved in the destruction and concealment of the victim's body.
The trial will now move to the discussion phase, with prosecutor Annamaria Frustaci scheduled to deliver her closing arguments on November 18. Salvatore Ascone remains an accused party in the case.
