Italian courts clear mobile antenna installations for Iliad and Vodafone

The Administrative Court of Palermo annulled the superintendence's denial of a licence for Iliad to build a mobile base station in the protected landscape area of Manfria, ruling that landscape protection must be balanced with public telecommunications needs. The judges emphasized that a blanket prohibition of cellular infrastructure would be illegal and cited the need to consider both environmental and entrepreneurial interests.

The Administrative Court of Marche suspended a municipal order to dismantle a Vodafone antenna in Jesi, finding that the conditions for urgent eviction were not met. The court lifted the eviction pending a further hearing and urged a negotiated solution between the municipality and the operators, while noting an existing court‑approved eviction of a separate InWit antenna in the same industrial zone.

Both decisions set precedents for the deployment of mobile network infrastructure in Italy, highlighting the courts' role in mediating between heritage protection and telecom expansion.
