Catanzaro Court sentences Abbruzzese brothers to 30 years for Luca Bruni murder
The Court of Appeal of Catanzaro has overturned a previous acquittal, sentencing Luigi and Marco Abbruzzese to 30 years in prison each for the murder of Luca Bruni. Bruni, a high-ranking figure in the 'Bella Bella' criminal organization, was killed in a targeted ambush on January 3, 2012, in the outskirts of Castrolibero.
While the brothers were initially acquitted of murder in the first instance, the appellate court accepted the prosecution's argument that they were involved in the planning and decision-making phases of the assassination. The victim's body remained hidden for over two years until it was discovered in 2014 following information from a judicial collaborator.
Luigi Abbruzzese, known as 'Pikachu', and Marco Abbruzzese, known as 'Struzzo', are identified as members of the 'Zingari' criminal group in Cosenza. The ruling significantly alters the judicial landscape regarding this high-profile crime within the 'ndrangheta.
