Italy infrastructure: legal rulings on A2 motorway and Garibaldi Bridge

In Italy, two separate legal developments involve major infrastructure projects. The Rome Court of Appeal has overturned previous rulings regarding the A2 motorway section between Mileto and Rosarno, finding no state financial damage. The court accepted appeals from several professionals and officials, including geologist Giovanni Parlato and project manager Marco Angelo Bosio, who had previously faced potential fines totaling millions of euros related to hydrogeological risk assessments and design choices near the Mesima river.

Separately, environmental associations including Italia Nostra, Gruppo Società Ambiente, and Confluenze have filed an appeal with the Council of State against a TAR Marche ruling. The groups are seeking to block the new Garibaldi Bridge project, arguing that the previous court decision failed to account for heritage concerns and that the project is not essential for hydraulic safety. They have requested an urgent suspension of works to prevent perceived damage to the historic city center.
