Father cleared in Acerra pitbull infant death case

An Italian court in Nola dismissed charges against the father of a nine‑month‑old girl who was killed by a family pitbull in Acerra, near Naples. Prosecutors had initially investigated him for involuntary manslaughter, alleging negligence in supervising the dog, but the judges found no evidence of wrongdoing. Autopsy results confirmed the child died instantly from severe neck injuries caused by the bite, and experts described the attack as a predatory "bite‑and‑hold" behaviour typical of the breed. The father, who had returned from work and fell asleep with the infant, was unable to prevent the fatal injury, and the court ruled that even immediate intervention would not have saved her. The ruling fully exonerates him of criminal liability.
