Italian craft beer production reaches 720,000 hectoliters in 2025

The Italian craft beer sector has reached a significant milestone, with production estimated at approximately 720,000 hectoliters in 2025. According to data presented by Unionbirrai, this figure represents 4.2% of Italy's total beer production. The industry comprises nearly 940 independent breweries, with approximately 930 operators producing no more than 10,000 hectoliters annually.

Unionbirrai President Vittorio Ferraris noted that the movement, which began thirty years ago, has evolved into a vital component of the national agri-food economy. The sector generates an estimated 9 million euros in excise duties, according to Customs and Monopolies Agency (Adm) data.

In a separate development, the gastronomy outlet Dissapore has launched its inaugural Top50 list of Italian craft breweries. The selection process evaluated producers based on production consistency, product identity, sustainability, use of local raw materials, and communication. The list aims to highlight quality and cultural value within the hundreds of active breweries across the country.
