Italian credit trends show rising loan costs and regional variations
Recent data indicates a rise in the cost of personal financing in Italy. By the third quarter of 2026, the average APR for personal loans reached 8.49%, continuing an upward trend from early 2025.
In the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, the average personal loan requested is 10,784 euros, with liquidity being the most common purpose (34.3%), followed by used car purchases and debt consolidation. For salary-backed loans (cessione del quinto), the average amount requested in the region is significantly higher at 23,917 euros.
In the Molise region, mortgage trends show lower amounts and property values compared to the national average. As of August, the average fixed mortgage rate rose to 3.46%, while variable rates stood at 2.80%. In Molise, the average mortgage amount is 97,212 euros with an average duration of 20 years and 8 months, which is shorter than the national average of 24 years and 7 months. The average property value in Molise is 133,235 euros, notably lower than the national average of 218,573 euros.
