Italy cruise industry hits record growth ahead of Livorno forum
The Italian cruise industry is experiencing record-breaking growth, with the summer 2026 season (June–August) seeing over 6.1 million passengers and 2,314 ship calls, a 4.5% and 14.9% increase respectively compared to 2025. Projections for the full year suggest a historic high of 15.4 million passengers and over 6,000 ship calls.
In Livorno, the port has seen significant expansion, handling approximately 815,000 passengers and 421 ship calls so far in 2026. To discuss these trends and the future of the sector, Livorno will host the 13th edition of the Italian Cruise Day on October 23, 2026. Organized by Risposte Turismo in partnership with the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea Port System Authority and Porto di Livorno 2000, the forum will address energy transition, port investments, and maritime decarbonization.
Regional data shows varied growth across Italy, with Salerno and Civitavecchia seeing notable increases, while the Adriatic-Ionian area experienced a slight decline. Local initiatives, such as those in Ogliastra, are also working to leverage cruise arrivals to promote regional culture and traditions.
