Italian cultural and environmental initiatives announced in Perugia and Lecce
The Fondo Forestale Italiano (FFI) will present the event ‘Aziende e foreste: un connubio di valore’ on September 9 in Perugia. The initiative focuses on the role of businesses and citizens in protecting Italy’s forest heritage through a model of ‘corporate patronage.’ This model involves companies providing contributions to protect specific, measurable forests with permanent constraints. The upcoming meeting in Perugia aims to discuss replicating this ‘Umbrian model’ across Italy and will include the ‘Mecenati dei Boschi’ award, recognizing supporters of the 93-hectare Bosco delle Sette Valli.
Separately, a presentation for the book ‘Border to Border’ by Flavia Pankiewicz will take place on September 5 at Ruralia, a sustainable farm in Monteroni di Lecce. The book is a new edition of a 1988 work detailing the true story of Gregorio Minervini, an Italian man who rode a horse solo across the American West, from the Mexican border to Canada. The journey, spanning approximately 3,000 miles, was undertaken to promote a message against drugs and alcohol.
