Italian cultural documentaries honor Mario Lupo and Alfonso Gatto
In Italy, new documentary films are highlighting the lives and legacies of significant cultural figures. In Giulianova, a large crowd gathered for the screening of ‘Mario Lupo – La mia vita per l’Arte’. Part of the Lupo100 project celebrating the centenary of the artist's birth, the event included a tribute to Marcello Sgattoni, a prominent artist from the San Benedetto and Piceno regions who recently passed away. Sgattoni was a featured participant in the documentary, providing testimony from his Pietraia dei Poeti.
Separately, the documentary ‘Isola. Luoghi e miti di Alfonso Gatto’ received its national premiere at Cilento Fest in Perito. Directed by Marcello Napoli and supervised by Maurizio Fiume, the film commemorates the 50th anniversary of the death of Salerno-born poet Alfonso Gatto. The project aims to connect Gatto's poetry and biography—including his involvement in anti-fascist activism and the Resistance—with the physical locations and contemporary sensibilities that shaped his work.
