Italian cultural sites announce special openings and free entry

Various cultural sites across Italy will host special opening events and free admission days in September 2026.

In the Calabria region, the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape (SABAP) for Catanzaro and Crotone has announced extraordinary openings. On September 5, visitors can access the hypogeum of the Church of San Domenico in Lamezia Terme to view frescoed environments and ongoing restoration research. Additionally, the MARCA Museum in Catanzaro will offer direct access to the restoration site of the large Assumption canvas from the Catanzaro Cathedral. The SABAP administrative offices will also open to present recent mission reports and ongoing projects.

In Sicily, the “Domenica al museo” initiative will provide free entry to all archaeological and landscape sites in Catania and its province on September 6. Featured locations include the Ancient Theatre and the Odeon in Catania, the Terme della Rotonda, and the Terme dell’Indirizzo. Other accessible sites include the Saro Franco Regional Museum in Adrano, the Regional Museum of Ceramics in Caltagirone, and the Regional Archaeological Museum in Centuripe.
