Italian Data Protection Authority and Security Committee Highlight AI Risks and Disinformation in 2025 Annual Reports
The Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante) released its 2025 activity report, emphasizing the rapid impact of artificial intelligence on society. The report details interventions on AI‑driven deepfakes, the restriction of data processing by two Chinese AI firms operating DeepSeek, and warning notices issued to platforms such as Grok, ChatGPT and Clothoff for generating synthetic audio‑visual content without consent.
The Committee for the Security of the Republic (Copasir) also published its 2025 annual report, outlining Italy’s expanding security agenda. It identifies disinformation campaigns linked to Russia, China and Iran, the growing relevance of cyber‑security, AI, critical‑infrastructure protection and hybrid warfare. Since June 2025 the government has begun providing the committee with regular updates on foreign information manipulation operations, making monitoring of influence activities a permanent intelligence task.
