Italian Defense leaders emphasize vision and leadership for future military challenges
Italian defense officials have outlined strategic priorities for the future of the nation's armed forces, focusing on leadership qualities and technological adaptation.
During the inauguration of the 2026-2027 academic year at the Army Officers' School in Turin, Chief of the Defense Staff General Luciano Portolano addressed future commanders. He emphasized three essential leadership qualities—character, courage, and competence—noting that while technology and advanced systems are increasing, the human factor remains the decisive element in an uncertain and hyper-competitive world.
Separately, Defense Minister Guido Crosetto addressed Air Force Brigadier General seminar participants, stating that future superiority will depend on vision rather than just the quantity of weaponry. Crosetto identified unity, innovation, and resilience as the core pillars for transforming the military. He highlighted the necessity of integrating air, space, and cyber capabilities to accelerate decision-making and strengthen operational effectiveness, while stressing the importance of a solid and innovative national industrial base.
