Italian Democratic Party alleges 720 million euro cut for ex-Ilva decarbonization
Members of the Democratic Party (PD), including deputies Claudio Stefanazzi, Marco Lacarra, and Francesca Viggiano, have accused the Italian government of eliminating 720.6 million euros intended for the decarbonization of the former Ilva steel plant in Taranto.
The deputies claim that the funds, originally provided under Article 3 of Decree-Law 107, were defunded through provisions hidden within the technical report annexes of the budget law. According to the lawmakers, the cuts include 498.8 million euros for the 2027–2029 period and an additional 221.8 million euros starting in 2030.
The opposition alleges that these resources were transferred to a general fund for business incentives, thereby stripping them of their specific purpose for industrial transformation. This development occurs amid significant uncertainty regarding the future production and employment stability of the steel plant following recent court rulings.
