Crotone medical director under investigation for aggravated fraud

A medical director and head of department at the Crotone Provincial Health Authority (Asp) is under investigation for aggravated fraud against the State. The investigation, coordinated by Chief Prosecutor Domenico Guarascio, focuses on allegations that the physician performed unauthorized private medical services while maintaining a contract of exclusivity with the public health service.

According to the Crotone Prosecutor's Office, the professional allegedly provided medical consultations and services in an 'extramoenia' capacity without the required corporate authorizations or a valid VAT number. This activity reportedly took place while the doctor continued to receive financial allowances tied to his exclusivity agreement with the public health agency.

Law enforcement conducted searches at the Mental Health Center, the doctor's private residence—which was allegedly used as a private clinic—and his digital devices. Surveillance by the Guardia di Finanza reportedly observed multiple individuals visiting the residence systematically for medical appointments. The investigation is currently in the preliminary phase to determine the extent of the economic damage to the State.
