Italian documentary filmmakers present new works on memory and identity
Several Italian documentary projects are gaining recognition for their unique approaches to storytelling. In Turin, director Alberto Gemmi will present “Il Labirinto” at the Cineteatro Baretti on October 20. Produced by Tekla Films, the documentary explores themes of memory and oblivion at the Futa German military cemetery in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, where over 30,000 German soldiers are buried. The film follows the Archivio Zeta theater company as they perform within the symbolic landscape of the memorial.
In Ischia, the documentary “Noi stesse,” directed by Luca Ciriello, has won the Audience Award at the Pianeta Mare Film Festival. The project originated from a participatory cinema workshop involving students from the IIS Cristofaro Mennella and the Liceo Giorgio Buchner. The film offers a collective perspective on female adolescence, focusing on the dreams, fears, and identities of young women through their own direct experiences and words.
