Italian driver seriously injured in A1 highway crash near Pristig, Croatia

On 29 July at around 11:15 a.m., a traffic collision occurred on the A1 motorway between Pristig and Vodice, Croatia, at the 293‑km + 50‑m marker. A 21‑year‑old Italian driver was traveling with two passengers when he entered the emergency stopping lane to avoid a broken‑down vehicle. The stopped car, a Czech‑registered vehicle driven earlier by a 38‑year‑old Czech citizen, was positioned in the lane with proper warning markers.

The Italian car struck the rear‑left side of the Czech car, causing the Italian vehicle to roll onto its side. The 22‑year‑old Italian passenger sustained life‑threatening injuries and was taken, together with the other passenger, to Šibenik Hospital. The younger passenger’s condition is still being assessed. Police have opened a criminal investigation to determine whether the crash was deliberately caused.

The incident involved Italian and Czech nationals, but the accident and emergency response took place in Croatia.
