Italian drug regulator AIFA adds detailed market status to 'Cerca un Farmaco' service

The Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA) has expanded the information available through its “AIFA Medicinali” portal, reachable via the “Cerca un farmaco” button on the AIFA website. The update lets users see the commercialisation status of each authorised human‑use medicine pack, classified as “in commerce”, “not in commerce”, “scarce” or “never marketed”. For packs listed as scarce, the record now includes the reason for the shortage, start date, expected end date, AIFA’s suggestions and any additional notes. Shortage data remain available on dedicated lists that also show equivalent products, therapeutic alternatives and the possibility of import from abroad, helping pharmacists and other supply‑chain actors manage temporary absences of medicines.
