Italian Dyslexia Association calls for inclusive remedial exams

The Italian Dyslexia Association (AID) has issued an appeal to teachers as remedial school exams begin. The organization is calling for the specific needs of students with Specific Learning Disorders (DSA) and Special Educational Needs (BES) to be guaranteed during the evaluation process.

In accordance with Law 170/2010, the AID emphasizes that equitable assessment must allow students to demonstrate their competencies while respecting their individual learning characteristics. This includes the concrete application of Personalized Didactic Plans (PDP), such as providing compensatory tools like maps, diagrams, and speech synthesis, as well as implementing dispensatory measures to prevent cognitive overload.

Lucia Iacopini, a teacher and national president of the AID, stated that fair evaluation does not mean lowering objectives, but rather ensuring every student is in the best position to express their knowledge and abilities through attention, collaboration, and shared efforts.
