Italian eco awards honor golf clubs and towns for sustainability

The Federazione Italiana Golf (FIG), together with the Istituto per il Credito Sportivo e Culturale, presented its “Impegnati nel Verde” environmental recognition at the DS Automobiles 83rd Open d’Italia in Turin. Golf clubs were praised for eco‑friendly practices, with awards for water management (Druento), biodiversity (Venezia), energy efficiency (Mantova, Montecchia) and cultural heritage (Milano, Le Rovedine, Cosmopolitan). Montecchia and Torino also received GEO 2025 certification for advanced environmental standards.

The town of Tortoreto in Abruzzo was granted the “Spighe Verdi” label during a ceremony on 25 June. The award, administered by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and Confagricoltura, highlights sustainable landscape management, waste reduction, agricultural quality and community wellbeing. Tortoreto joins 96 other Italian municipalities, including San Salvo and Gioia dei Marsi, in the 2026 national roster.

In Rome, at the National Research Council (CNR), four Calabrian municipalities—Montegiordano, Roseto Capo Spulico, Trebisacce and Villapiana—received the “Spighe Verdi 2026” eco‑label. The ceremony marked Calabria’s strong performance, with eleven awarded towns placing the region second nationwide, alongside Piedmont and tied with Tuscany, for the number of rural green flags.
