Italian economic challenges and business resilience

Analysis of Italy's economic situation indicates that structural issues, such as high public debt, inflation, and healthcare system crises, are the primary drivers of the country's difficulties rather than military aid to Ukraine. Since the start of the conflict in 2022, Italy has allocated approximately 3 billion euros in direct bilateral military aid, averaging about 800 million euros annually. This represents roughly 0.03% of Italy's GDP, or approximately 50 euros per citizen. Much of the equipment sent consists of existing inventory from defense warehouses rather than new market purchases.

In response to recent global crises including the pandemic, energy shortages, and geopolitical tensions, the Festival dell’Impresa 2026 will be held in Bergamo from November 6 to 8. The event, themed ‘Crescere nonostante’ (Growing despite), aims to discuss the future of the Italian economy and industrial capacity. The festival will feature approximately 300 participants from industry, research, and public institutions to explore solutions for business growth and innovation amidst ongoing international instability.
