Italian Economy Minister Giorgetti Asked to Meet on Monte dei Paschi's Future

The province of Siena, the municipality of Siena and the Tuscany regional government have jointly sent a formal request to Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti for an urgent meeting to discuss the future of Monte dei Paschi di Siena amid ongoing banking sector reorganisation.

Their letter stresses that the bank is a crucial economic, social and cultural pillar for Siena and Tuscany and outlines four non‑negotiable points: safeguard employment and related jobs; keep the bank’s headquarters and management functions in Siena; preserve its role in providing credit to local families and SMEs; and protect the institution’s historic, artistic and archival assets.
