Italian education faces challenges in digital integration and student support

Italian educators and policymakers are highlighting critical gaps in the national school system regarding technology integration and student welfare. According to the ‘Educate to Empower 2026’ report, Italian teachers gave the balance between digital tools and traditional teaching methods a score of 5.5 out of 10. While 66% of Italian students expect widespread use of technology in the classroom, 75% of teachers and 76% of technicians agree that investments have focused too heavily on hardware rather than pedagogical integration.

Furthermore, Member of Parliament Irene Manzi has emphasized the need for schools to evolve into spaces for dialogue and psychological support. Addressing student protests and the rising cost of living, Manzi noted that schools must address student psychological distress through increased roles for educators and pedagogists. She also highlighted that the high cost of books and materials is creating disparities in the right to study, suggesting a need for extended school hours to support students from complex family backgrounds.
