Italian educators call for stability in special education training
Italian educators and advocacy groups are calling for stability and continuity in special education training following the implementation of INDIRE courses. Teachers, including those with foreign qualifications, are facing professional uncertainty due to the lack of a confirmed third training cycle.
Proponents of the INDIRE model argue it is effective, equitable, and sustainable for the school system, noting that specialized teachers have successfully entered permanent roles even without the additional 12.5 points granted to standard TFA (Teacher Training Course) graduates.
Simultaneously, the Ministry of Education is considering reforms to initial training for special education support. This may include revising the TFA to better align with school needs and creating diversified access paths for precarious teachers who have completed at least three years of service in state schools. These discussions are occurring alongside ongoing negotiations with the European Union regarding dual recruitment channels for teachers.
