Italian emergency services rescue a heat‑collapsed senior in Formia and a man from the Tiber in Rome

On a hot morning around 11:30 at Molo Vespucci in Formia, an elderly man waiting for a bus to Itri collapsed, likely due to the high temperatures. A nearby doctor provided immediate assistance until an ambulance arrived; the man suffered no serious injuries and was treated without lasting harm. The incident underscored the pier’s shortage of benches and shade, prompting local calls for additional seating and protective structures.

In Rome, a man entered the Tiber River near the stretch between Ponte Milvio and Ponte Duca d'Aosta on the evening of 4 August. A passerby alerted emergency services via 112, and the fire brigade’s river unit and divers responded swiftly, retrieving the individual and handing him over to medical staff. Police are investigating whether the fall was accidental or intentional.
