Major oil companies implement fuel price caps in Italy

Major oil companies in Italy, including Eni, IP, Q8, and Tamoil, have implemented fuel price caps for gasoline and diesel in response to government appeals and international market volatility. These measures aim to mitigate the impact of high energy costs on consumers and the transport sector.

Eni has set its limits at 1.99 euros per liter for gasoline and 2.19 euros for diesel. IP has adopted similar figures, while Q8 Italia is implementing a modular approach, with some stations aligning with Eni's rates. Tamoil has also joined the initiative, with measures expected to last until October 31, 2026. Collectively, these major providers cover approximately 50.9% of Italy's fuel stations, involving roughly 11,500 distribution points.

While consumer associations have welcomed the relief, independent distributors have raised concerns. Some small operators have filed complaints with the Antitrust Authority, alleging that the price caps create unfair competition by compressing margins for those who cannot match the large corporations' pricing structures.
