Italian entrepreneurs target beach tourism as fraud prevention tools emerge

Major Italian entrepreneurial families, including the Lunelli, Marzotto, Rivetti, and Zucchetti families, are investing in 'Onda,' a project designed to aggregate and modernize Italy's fragmented beach tourism sector. The initiative aims to transform seaside establishments into high-end hospitality experiences, targeting a market valued at approximately €22 billion involving over 30,000 businesses.

Separately, new security measures are emerging to combat a rise in telephone fraud targeting Italy's elderly population. Criminal organizations are increasingly using AI to clone voices and spoof numbers, contributing to a trend where telephone scams accounted for €559.4 million in losses between 2022 and 2024. In response, the application 'Devia' has been launched to provide a 'human filter' by rerouting calls from unknown numbers to security professionals who vet the caller's intentions before connecting them to the user.
