Italy's IILA strengthens green cooperation with Latin America

On 18‑19 June 2026 the International Italian‑Latin American Organization (IILA) hosted two high‑level visits in Rome. The Council of Delegates met Italian Minister of Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, who highlighted Italy’s leadership in circular economy, plastic recycling and the emerging textile‑waste challenge, and explored joint actions on climate change, sustainable resource management and energy transition with Latin‑American delegations.

The same week IILA Secretary‑General Giorgio Silli welcomed Peruvian Foreign Minister Carlos Pareja Ríos and the Peruvian ambassador. Their talks covered ongoing cooperation programmes in social cohesion, justice and security (EUROFRONT, EL PACTO 2.0, COPOLAD), sustainable agriculture, the Lab Innova America Latina initiative, and the “VISSI D’ARTE” exhibition linking Italian and Latin‑American theatres.

Analyst Lorenzo Tordelli noted that Latin America’s green transition presents a strategic market for Italian firms, especially in traceability, digital monitoring, renewable energy and circular‑economy technologies, underlining the broader economic potential of the Italy‑Latin America partnership.
