Italian families demand answers on three missing citizens in Mexico

Three Neapolitan men—Raffaele Russo, Antonio Russo and Vincenzo Cimmino—disappeared on 31 January 2018 in Tecalitlán, Jalisco, Mexico. Their families and lawyer Claudio Falleti say Mexican authorities have been “reticent” and have failed to clarify the role of local police and drug‑cartel networks. Falleti has until 3 August to submit detailed observations to the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances, urging accountability.

In Italy, the Chamber of Deputies has introduced a proposal for a “Fascicolo delle Persone Scomparse,” a legal dossier system intended to strengthen early‑stage investigations of missing persons. The 2021 trial in Jalisco convicted three local police officers to 50 years for the kidnappings; a fourth suspect, police operator Lidia Guadalupe, fled during the hearing and remains at large. The families continue to press for justice and full answers.
