Italian Farmers' Union urges government action as diesel prices stay high despite oil price drop

The Italian Confederation of Farmers (Cia Ferrara) points out that while the WTI crude price has fallen to $68‑$69 per barrel – staying below $100 for more than a month – pump prices for gasoline remain at €1.90 per litre and agricultural diesel is still just over €1 per litre, unchanged for the past fifteen days. The association says the end of the temporary excise‑tax discount on fuel this weekend will further raise gasoline and diesel costs.

Cia Ferrara calls the price stagnation a speculative market distortion that hurts farmers, especially as recent droughts and extreme heat have forced intensive irrigation of crops such as maize, soy and fruit. It demands an immediate government investigation and measures to protect agricultural enterprises from what it describes as “unjustified profit margins” in the fuel supply chain.
