Italian film festivals Tropea and Fondi announce September programs
Several Italian film festivals are scheduled to take place this September, highlighting both cinematic heritage and modern innovation.
The fourth edition of the Tropea Film Festival will run from September 20 to 26 in Tropea. Directed by Emanuele Bertucci, the event aims to stimulate the local economy and cultural positioning of the city. This edition features a theme of ‘cinema on the sea’ and includes tributes to Marilyn Monroe and Raf Vallone. Notable participants include Desirée Popper, Madalina Ghenea, Neri Parenti, and Lina Sastri. The festival also explores new audiovisual languages, such as works created with artificial intelligence, and maintains a cultural connection with Japan.
Meanwhile, the FONDIfilmFESTIVAL celebrates its 25th anniversary, running from September 4 to 27 across Sperlonga and Fondi. Organized by the Associazione Giuseppe De Santis, the festival includes screenings, retrospectives, and meetings. The program features a retrospective on actress Sonia Bergamasco and tributes to Ettore Scola and the screenwriting duo Age & Scarpelli. The event also includes a section titled ‘Images from Work,’ focusing on professional realities through film.
