Italian film ‘Greta e le favole vere’ set for August release
The feature film "Greta e le favole vere", directed by Berardo Carboni and starring teen actress Sara Ciocca as the titular Greta, premiered out of competition at the Giffoni Film Festival. It will open in Italian cinemas on 6 August through Vision Distribution, with production backed by Pegasus, Rai Cinema, QMI and the Ministry of Culture, in partnership with Sky.
The story follows a ten‑year‑old girl inspired by Greta Thunberg who frees a captured polar‑bear cub and embarks on a perilous journey to return it to the North Pole, using the fable format to explore humanity’s relationship with nature. At Giffoni, Ciocca said, "We want to build a better world and are inspired by Greta’s courage."
Ciocca also promoted her involvement in the musical "Il ragazzo dai pantaloni rosa", a stage adaptation addressing bullying, which debuted in Rome and will tour Italy.
