Italian Five Star Movement pushes health and procurement reforms

The CGIL met with a delegation of Five Star Movement parliamentarians to present two popular legislative proposals: one to strengthen protections for workers employed through public contracts and another to reinforce the national health service. The initiatives aim to extend rights to more than three million contract workers and to increase funding and services for the NHS, including local health care and home assistance.

Separately, Five Star Movement eurodeputy Pasquale Tridico criticised the management of the health system in Calabria, citing a Court of Auditors report that shows a rise in out‑of‑region treatment costs—from €254 million in 2023 to a projected €329 million in 2025—and a decline in medical staff. He asked regional president Roberto Occhiuto to explain when community health houses will open, how €328 million earmarked for health authorities will be spent, and the whereabouts of €240 million of state funds.
