Italian football leaders critique system at Rome book launch

At the Circolo Canottieri Aniene in Rome, the new book *Per vincere Domani* by journalist Ivan Zazzaroni was presented. Speakers included Fiorentina director Fabio Paratici, CONI president Giovanni Malagò, FIGC secretary‑general Gabriele Gravina and former national coach Roberto Mancini. Paratici argued that blaming the federation president for missed penalties is absurd, saying “the crisis of Italian football? I laugh at those who accuse the president for a wrong penalty”. He highlighted structural flaws in youth training, coach education and the lack of a proper academy system compared with Spain, the Netherlands and England. Malagò stressed that while Serie A drives the sport’s economy, “the FIGC makes the difference”, and criticised the reliance on amateur clubs and insufficient public facilities. Both stressed that short‑term fixes such as changing coaches will not resolve deep‑rooted issues and called for comprehensive reforms of the Italian football development system.
