Italian football faces economic and structural shifts

Italian football is undergoing significant structural and economic shifts. In European club competitions, the return of the UEFA Champions League presents a major financial opportunity, with Italian clubs potentially earning up to 450 million euros in total revenue from prizes, rankings, and commercial rights. The new Champions League format features a 36-team league phase, with Italian representatives including Inter, Napoli, Roma, and Como.

On the domestic front, preparations for Euro 2032 are intensifying. Sports Minister Andrea Abodi has stated that construction for the five designated stadiums must begin by May of next year. This aligns with efforts by the Lega Serie A to modernize aging infrastructure and increase matchday attendance, which has recently returned to 1990s levels.

Additionally, technical changes are being implemented across various levels of the game. New IFAB refereeing rules, aimed at increasing playing time and dynamism, are being integrated into Serie A and Serie D. Meanwhile, national team coach Roberto Mancini is monitoring emerging talents in Serie A to bolster the Azzurri squad for upcoming Nations League fixtures.
