Italian-French Border Operation Leads to Three Arrests

From Saturday night to Tuesday midnight, Italian and French border police carried out a three‑day intensified control operation along the Ventimiglia‑Menton stretch following the EU migration and asylum pact that entered into force on 12 June. The effort identified 478 persons and resulted in five active re‑entries of irregular migrants to France.

During the operation three arrests were made. A foreign national suspected of facilitating irregular migration was intercepted while transporting four undocumented migrants; after refusing to stop, his vehicle was chased across the border into France where he was detained. A second foreign national, wanted internationally for aggravated sexual violence, illegal weapons possession and other urban‑crime charges, was also arrested. The third arrest involved a Tunisian passenger on a bus to Italy who was stopped at the Ventimiglia highway barrier for using a falsified identity card.

The operation highlighted close cooperation between Italy’s Polizia di Frontiera and France’s Police Aux Frontières, with joint intelligence sharing, risk analysis and coordinated field actions.
