Italian general practitioners call for clearer organizational roles

Silvestro Scotti, president of the Italian Federation of General Practitioners (Fimmg), has called for a clearer organizational definition regarding the relationship between private medical offices and 'Case della comunità' (community houses). Speaking at a congress in Palermo, Scotti emphasized that the reorganization of general medicine must adhere to the National Collective Agreement (Acn) in its entirety to avoid overlaps that could reduce patient care time.

Scotti also argued that physician performance should not be measured solely by clinic opening hours, but should instead account for documented services and activities via digital data flows. He noted that new remuneration systems based on objective achievement require scientifically grounded indicators and appropriate economic recognition.

Toti Amato, president of the Order of Physicians in Palermo, noted that in Sicily, a phase of concrete dialogue has opened with the Health Department. This dialogue aims to bridge the gap between hospital and territorial care, though challenges remain regarding district organization and new assistance models.
