Italian geoparks host events for International Geodiversity Day

To celebrate International Geodiversity Day, various Italian geoparks are hosting events to promote geological heritage and sustainable development.

In the Beigua Geopark, activities include a webinar on historical stones and the materials used in the Cistercian Abbey of Tiglieto, as well as guided excursions. These include a walking tour in Tiglieto to observe construction techniques and geological features, and a guided bicycle tour along the coast of Varazze to identify marine terraces and coastal rock structures.

In Rome, the Aspromonte Geopark UNESCO will participate in a conference titled ‘Geoparks, Parks, Territories, Communities’. Organized by the Italian Federation of Associations and Clubs for UNESCO (FICLU) in collaboration with geological and geographical societies, the event aims to present geodiversity as a resource for cultural, educational, and economic development. The program includes roundtables on proximity networks and case studies from various Italian regions, including a presentation on the geosites of Aspromonte.
