Italian Government Confirms 1,500 Pharmacy Training Slots for 2026‑27
In the July 23, 2026 session of the permanent conference between the State, the regions and the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano, the parties approved the training quota for the 2026/27 academic year. The national need for pharmacists was set at 1,500 positions, a figure lower than the full demand expressed by the regions but aligned with the estimate provided by the Pharmacy Federation. The quota aims to balance projected hospital staffing needs and the role of community pharmacies in territorial health services, avoiding an oversupply of graduates.
Other health‑related professions were also allocated specific quotas: 20,842 for medical doctors, 1,733 for veterinarians, 1,599 for dentists and 25,479 for nurses, along with separate numbers for biologists, chemists and physicists.
