Italy government defends security response to urban violence
Italian Minister for Relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani, has defended the government's management of recent urban violence in Milan and Bologna. Responding to inquiries in the Chamber, Ciriani stated that there was no underestimation of risk, noting that security measures had been prepared in advance by the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security.
During the recent unrest on October 17 and 18, over 1,000 operators were deployed. The incidents resulted in 343 individuals being taken to police headquarters, with 48 arrests and 50 reported. The violence led to 193 injuries among law enforcement officers in Milan and Bologna alone.
In response to these predatory behaviors, the Council of Ministers has approved a decree-law aimed at enhancing tools for the prevention and combat of crime, including juvenile delinquency.
