Italian Government to Accelerate Security and Immigration Measures

Members of Italy’s governing coalition discussed a planned acceleration of policies on public security and illegal immigration. Lega deputy Stefano Matone said the Meloni administration will impose a "strong acceleration" in these areas, citing restored international credibility and upcoming contractual renewals.

Conversely, Fratelli d'Italia senator Lucio Malan argued that no new acceleration is underway, noting that the government has pursued security reforms since 2022, including record‑level repatriations of migrant offenders and a recent shift in EU policy that now allows immediate returns for those who commit crimes.

Both politicians highlighted the importance of reducing irregular arrivals and enhancing safety for vulnerable populations, reflecting ongoing debate within the coalition over how quickly further measures should be implemented.
