Italian government unveils decree to ease fuel costs for truckers and boost inter‑port development

The Sicilian Mobility Assessor Alessandro Aricò presented a draft decree aimed at mitigating the impact of rising fuel prices on regional auto‑transport firms. The measure outlines eligibility criteria and funding mechanisms for truck operators, seeking to sustain a sector deemed vital for Italy’s economy and competitiveness. During the same regional consultation, officials highlighted plans for the Termini Imerese inter‑port, outlining infrastructure upgrades, increased inter‑modality and investment attraction to reinforce its Mediterranean role.

Separately, a national Mobility‑as‑a‑Service (MaaS) program, financed with €56.9 million from the PNRR, advanced a large‑scale digital transport experiment across six municipalities and multiple regions. By the end of May 2026, nearly 950,000 trips were recorded through the platform, exceeding project targets. The initiative established a national data repository, living labs in Milan and Turin, and involved more than 1,500 citizens, 54 researchers and over 200 organisations, showcasing a collaborative model for connected, sustainable mobility in Italy.
