Italian Guardia di Finanza seizes 53‑plant marijuana farm in Grisolia

The Guardia di Finanza unit from Scalea seized a clandestine marijuana plantation in the forested area of Grisolia, Italy. Police identified 53 cannabis plants, ranging from 30 cm to three metres tall, hidden among dense vegetation and irrigated by a permanent system.

During the operation, 44 plants were destroyed on site and nine were collected for laboratory analysis. The seizure was coordinated with the Paola public prosecutor’s office, led by Chief Prosecutor Domenico Fiordalisi. Authorities estimate the illicit market value of the crop at more than €200,000. The investigation was triggered by an aerial report from the Lamezia Terme air‑section of the Vibo Valentia naval‑air unit, which helped locate the remote site.

The case has been referred to the Paola prosecutor’s office for violation of drug‑trafficking laws, underscoring the ongoing effort of the financial police to combat illegal drug cultivation in the region.
