Italian police launch nationwide crackdown on nightlife crime and drug trafficking
Italian law‑enforcement agencies carried out a series of coordinated operations across the country targeting predatory theft, drug possession and related offences in nightlife districts and public spaces. In Rome, a maxi‑operation from Termini to Trastevere identified more than 500 people, arrested 21 individuals (including 11 foreigners) and seized dozens of kilograms of hashish, cocaine and marijuana. In Milan, police checks at six railway stations and the metro system identified 8,435 people, reported 34 concealed knives and made ten arrests. In Alessandria, three suspects were arrested and about 345 g of hashish and cocaine were seized. In Fiuggi, a police‑dog unit found a small packet of hashish (≈0.7 g) during street checks. Napoli’s Carabinieri inspected 84 people, stopped 36 vehicles and recorded numerous violations, including drug possession and illegal parking. Similar actions in Frosinone, Mirabella Eclano, Pasturano and other towns resulted in arrests, drug seizures and the confiscation of weapons or illegal items. The operations, described as “extraordinary territorial controls,” aim to curb pickpocketing, robberies, drug trafficking and other criminal activities that affect residents and tourists alike.
