Italian guides urge SPF makeup and sunscreen use for UV protection

Beauty and skincare experts in Italy recommend using makeup products that contain sun‑protective filters, with SPF levels ranging from 30 to 50, to shield the skin from harmful UV rays throughout the year. Examples cited include facial powders, primers and foundations from brands such as Hawaiian Tropic, Neve Cosmetics, Kosas, Max Factor, Charlotte Tilbury and Bobbi Brown, each formulated to combine cosmetic benefits with medium‑to‑high sun protection.

Dermatologists also advise applying stand‑alone sunscreen correctly. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends a broad‑spectrum SPF of at least 30, with many professionals preferring SPF 50 as the standard. A practical “two‑finger” rule—covering the length of two fingers on the index and middle hand—helps ensure enough product is used on the face, and reapplication after one to two hours of sun exposure is essential.
