Italian harvest festivals in Cianciana and Mercato San Severino showcase regional cuisine and politics

The Sagra del Raccolto in Cianciana ran from 31 July to 2 August 2026 in Piazza Largo Convento. Organized by the municipal administration under Mayor Francesco Martorana and Agriculture Assessor Paolo Manzullo, the event highlighted ancient grains, legumes and other local products. It featured a flagship showcooking by chef Peppe Giuffrè on 1 August and a second cooking demonstration by Chef Salvo Paolo Mangiapane on 2 August, and officially declared a “world chickpea hour” at 21:00.

A week earlier, the I Sagra dei Gusti Contadini in Costa, part of the Mercato San Severino area, took place on 27 July 2026. Organized by Luigi Pergamo, the fair combined traditional dishes such as pasta alla norma, porchetta and local wines with a political round‑table that included mayor Antonio Somma, regional councillors and representatives of agricultural and environmental associations. Participants debated youth disengagement, security and employment while celebrating regional culinary heritage. Both festivals aim to valorise local agriculture, boost tourism and foster dialogue between citizens and political leaders in Italy.
