Italian health agencies launch FASD awareness campaigns
Health authorities in Italy are launching awareness campaigns to mark the International FASD Day on September 9, focusing on the risks of alcohol consumption during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
In the Abruzzo region, the Asl Lanciano Vasto Chieti will host information points in Chieti, Lanciano, and Vasto on September 9. These sessions aim to educate the public on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD), noting that prenatal alcohol exposure can lead to permanent difficulties in learning, memory, behavior, and social relationships.
In Sicily, the ASP di Palermo is implementing the “Mamme Dieci Alcol Zero!” project. The campaign, which includes the slogan “Un solo drink è già troppo” (Even one drink is too many), features community outreach in Palermo. In collaboration with the association LIFE and LIFE ETS and specialists from AIDEFAD, the initiative includes educational meetings, quizzes, and non-alcoholic tastings to emphasize that no amount of alcohol is considered safe during pregnancy.
