Italian health agencies launch initiatives for active aging
Health authorities in Italy are implementing various regional initiatives to promote active aging and support elderly autonomy.
In Narzole, Asl CN2 is conducting an awareness campaign focused on domestic safety to prevent falls among the elderly. Part of the EU-cofinanced Joint Action CIRCE project, the initiative includes practical sessions led by physiotherapists to teach strategies for reducing fall risks and maintaining mobility within the home.
In the Ogliastra region, Asl Ogliastra has launched a training course for 50 healthcare professionals and local administrators titled ‘Memory Gyms: a community approach to active aging’. Based on successful models from Modena and Asti, these community-based spaces allow seniors to meet weekly to perform cognitive exercises targeting memory, attention, and orientation, while also providing opportunities for social interaction and physical movement.
