Italian health authorities address emergency department issues

Health authorities in different Italian regions are implementing measures to address critical issues in emergency departments. In Acri, the ASP of Cosenza has provided assurances regarding the upcoming structural upgrading and expansion of the local emergency room. This project aims to create more functional and modern spaces for both patients and medical staff. Additionally, the ASP has confirmed that recruitment procedures for new doctors and nurses are being activated to combat chronic staffing shortages.

In Ascoli, the AST is studying interventions to improve the functioning of the Mazzoni emergency department. Following citizen complaints and reports of aggression against staff, Director General Antonello Maraldo met with clinical and nursing leadership to develop a plan. Proposed measures include improving communication, modifying physical environments, enhancing fast-track patient pathways, and streamlining admission and discharge procedures to reduce waiting times.
