Italian Health Authority Opens New Community Care Hubs in Sicily

New community health centres were inaugurated in Sicily this week. In Lipari, the Casa della Comunità Hub was opened by the strategic directorate of the ASP Messina, the island’s mayor Riccardo Gullo and other political, religious and military representatives. The hub, covering about 1,300 m², will provide 24‑hour medical assistance, primary care, social services, psychology and home‑care support, forming part of the ASP Messina’s network of 18 structures, including six hubs and twelve spokes, under the national recovery plan (PNRR) Mission 6 – Health.

On the same day in the provinces of Trapani, the ASP Trapani inaugurated the Ospedale di Comunità in Salemi together with a new Casa della Comunità, attended by ASP commissioner Sabrina Pulvirenti, Bishop Angelo Giurdanella, mayor Vito Scalisi and other health officials. The Salemi facility includes ten inpatient rooms with 20 beds and specialist outpatient services. The Partanna Casa della Comunità was also opened by Pulvirenti and local officials. Both projects aim to strengthen territorial health assistance and improve access for residents of the islands and surrounding towns.
